Kristof Farms launches award-winning ciders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

YAMHILL, OR -- The Kristofs are launching  three new ciders from their second apple harvest this Sunday, June 5th, in Portland, OR.

Following the 2021 harvest, the Kristofs partnered with acclaimed Oregon cider maker Christine Walter at Bauman’s Cider to create these new flavorful aromatic ciders.  The 2021 Orchard Cider is cider-making in its purest form: a traditionally-fermented dry cider that in May won a prestigious Best-in-Class award at GLINTCAP, the world’s largest cider competition.

For the second cider, a portion of fermented juice was aged in neutral oak barrels and blended with award-winning Ice Cider from Eden Specialty Ciders in Newport, Vermont, to create the 2021 Reserve Cider.  The 2021 Reserve Cider won a gold medal at GLINTCAP.

Lastly, a limited release of 2021 Pétillant Cider was created by diverting partially-fermented juice from tanks and into bottles.  Pétillant naturel is a French term that means “naturally sparkling.”  .

Beginning in 2018, the Kristofs transformed their cherry orchard into a cider apple orchard and vineyard, and these three new ciders are produced from their second apple harvest.

“Our cider is the product of a farm that is three generations and 50 years in the making,” said Caroline Kristof, who is managing the farm operations. “We hope our products continue to bring people together!”

“When you put great care into choosing interesting varieties and then let the terroir speak through the apples, it’s easy to make great cider. The apples do all the heavy lifting here,” said Christine Walter, owner of Bauman’s Cider.

The cider launch will take place on Sunday, June 5, from 4-6 pm at The Place PDX at 1212-D SE Powell Blvd in Portland, OR. Tacos will be available from Canallas. The 2021 apple harvest on Kristof Farms yielded roughly 400 gallons of fresh heirloom juice, a meaningful increase from the previous year.
