Caroline Kristof

Caroline is a General Manager of Kristof Farms, responsible for many aspects of the farm business, from watering the trees to writing website biographies for her family.

She is a 26 year old with a very cute puppy named Tux. She graduated in 2020 (from her computer screen, indeed) with a degree in History and Literature from Harvard, and is now at Duke pursuing a Masters in Environmental Management. She never would have dreamed that she’d be managing her family business, but has since discovered a passion for agriculture and drinking, so it’s worked out.  Caroline loves to play outside, own too many houseplants, pick up new hobbies, and drink cider! Her greatest accomplishment is backpacking the entire Pacific Crest Trail (in sections) with her father. She has a 15 year old bonsai tree named Bonnie that flowers once a month and brightens the world. One day she hopes to be able to do a backflip off of a car. She is flattered you made it all the way down here and now wants to be your friend!

Nick Kristof

Along with Caroline, Nick is the General Manager of Kristof Farms. He tackles the complicated process of transforming his childhood cherry orchard to a vineyard and apple orchard. No cutting corners!

Nick’s biggest accomplishment was completing the Pacific Crest Trail with his daughter, Caroline. He grew up on Kristof Farms back when it was just called “the farm” and attended nearby Yamhill-Carlton High School before moving to Boston to attend Harvard. In addition to being smart, he is also tone deaf (like, actually) and often wears sneakers and jeans when on TV because “the camera only captures the top-half!” Nicholas devours books almost as fast as he devours the egg scrambles he eats for every meal, and he doesn’t understand that normal people have head voices when they read (“What do you mean you can only read as fast as your head voice, that’s ridiculous!”)

After being editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, he was promoted to being a columnist at the New York Times and has been to about 165 countries. For many years when Caroline was little, Nicholas promised to bring home a pet elephant from his travels. She is still waiting.

Sheryl WuDunn

Sheryl is the Treasurer of Kristof Farms. She makes sure all the ducks dollars are in a row.

Though Sheryl’s roots are in New York City, she has discovered the appeal of the rural farm life, though she has yet to discover the appeal of having to drive 35 minutes to get groceries. Sheryl’s parents were first-generation Chinese immigrants, though they wanted their children so badly to fit in in the US that it was only in college that Sheryl learned Chinese. Now, she is the first Asian-American woman to have won a Pulitzer Prize. She is not tone-deaf; in fact, she sang in choruses growing up so luckily her kids are only 1/2 tone deaf (unequally distributed). Sheryl recently co-founded FullSky Partners, which helps double bottom line companies in healthcare and technology, and she enjoys eating cashews constantly. She looks much younger than she is, which is 29. She works and works and works, and even if any of her kids text her a question at 3:45 am, she somehow wakes up and answers it immediately, and her kids are very grateful for that.

Jamie King

Jamie is our new Sales & Marketing manager, and is connecting with restaurants and bottle shops eager to stock Kristof Cider, and thinking about events to pursue.

She’s a Portlander of many talents: She previously worked in the tech sector in San Francisco, she then ran her own yoga studio, she’s a mom, loves great cider and wine, and runs 100-mile ultra marathons (including one the day before we interviewed her!) We’re proud of our family expeditions around Mt. Hood on the Timberline Trail in two days, but Jamie runs the loop before lunch!

If you have any questions about ordering quantities of cider, you can reach her at jamie@kristoffarms.com.

Geoffrey Kristof

Geoffrey is a business manager at Kristof Farms.

He is a 30-year-old global-macro investor, who in his free time enjoys Ancient roman history, feeding steaks to the dogs, and working to enhance his sensory sophistication. It’s fun that he works in finance because that means he is going to fund our retirement. He pushed for the whole vineyard thing from the beginning, and because he’s such a good debater, we agreed, and here we are. Recently, he purchased a bow & arrow and probably wants to talk about it with you. He is allergic to dogs but can’t resist inviting Connie, the biggest dog shedder in the world, on his bed daily. You win some you lose some.

Adam Harper

Adam is a business manager at Kristof Farms. He’s also currently a law student, with very little free time. Nowadays he fills his free time by filling out paperwork for Kristof Farms.

His greatest accomplishment was fixing the toilet in the kids’ bathroom at the farm. Adam is tech support, videographer, pond cleaner, toilet fixer, dog discipliner, and tractor lover. Every time he’s in Yamhill, he fires up the old John Deere tractor (after recharging the battery, because the alternator keeps breaking, please help) and goes for a ride. Let’s just say he’s pretty handy to have around — and no, you can’t borrow him.

Jane Kristof

Jane is a Professor Emerita of Art History at Portland State University and the reigning matriarch of Kristof Farms.

After earning her BA and MA from University of Chicago, her Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia, and a post-graduate fellowship from U. Edinburgh in Scotland, Jane settled down in Yamhill, Oregon with her husband, Ladis Kristof. Of all Jane’s tremendous accomplishments, it is likely that of raising several generations of beautiful curly-coated retrievers and kuvasz dogs. That, or producing net-zero waste for forty straight years.

Connie, Chloe, and Tux

Their greatest accomplishments are being the greatest, most beautiful, most loved doggos on the planet. Connie, a Kuvasz, serves as Chief Security Officer along with Chloe, a curly-coated retriever. They also manage waste duty in the kitchen. Tux is the proud pup of Caroline and Adam. He keeps things interesting for Connie and Chloe, and the rest of us.

Christine Walter

Christine is the owner and cider-maker at Bauman’s Cider in Gervais, Oregon. She is an all-around badass female cider-maker, respected across the industry for her award-winning ciders. We’re grateful to her for helping us produce and bottle our 2022 Harvest.

From Sip Magazine in 2018:

“She’s been making cider for over two years now, with taps pouring her product all over the Portland and Salem areas. And if you stop by the farm you might find some exclusive tastes of Walter’s experimental flavors. As of just a month ago, the most popular flavors, Clyde’s Dry and Loganberry, were filled into fresh bottles. While the next step lies in getting more flavors bottled, Walter hopes to start canning as well, for those upcoming summer hikes.”

Adam Campbell

Adam is the owner and co-winemaker at Elk Cove Winery in Yamhill, Oregon. As our vines have grown up, Adam has guided us through the various complexities of growing grapes and making wine. His Pinot Noirs are award winning and have been served from time to time in the White House. We’re excited to see what our collaboration will bring — whenever our grapes are ready!

From Elk Cove’s website:

“Owner and Winemaker Adam Campbell is the son of Elk Cove founders Pat and Joe Campbell and grew up on the property. Like all the Campbell kids, he spent his summers in the vineyard and on the bottling line, but Adam developed a special connection to the vineyards. In 1995 he joined forces with his folks to make Elk Cove’s wines and in 1999 he became head winemaker.”
