KF Book Club: July Book of the Month
Get ready for another summer banger...
I don't know about you but I can't think of any better way to spend a summer day than enjoying an ice-cold glass of Kristof Farms Noir Cider while reading our #KFBookClub July Book of the Month: The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride.
This book is set in 1972 in Pottstown Pennsylvania where they are digging the foundations for a new development, and discover a skeleton at the bottom of a well.
And while, yes, it is a mystery - uncovering who the skeleton is and how it got there - it is so much more than that.
Within the pages of The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, McBride skillfully weaves together the tale of Chicken Hill, a vibrant neighborhood where immigrant Jewish and Black communities live side by side. Simultaneously, he unveils the long-hidden secrets of these inhabitants, while brilliantly illustrating the tenacity of community, the profound bond of friendship, the transformative power of love, and the indomitable spirit of triumph.
I really can’t wait to hear what you all think!
Before you jump off to read, don’t forget that next month, we’ll have our very first IRL KF Book Club meet-up at Kells Irish Pub in downtown Portland on Wednesday, August 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Details are here. And in case you want to get a head start, we’ll be reading Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See.
