It’s harvest time!

Our harvest is in! The bears and deer are sulking, because we’ve snatched our cider apples and Pinot Noir grapes from their jaws. The grapes are now on their way to becoming wine. And the apples are headed to the fermenting tanks and in the process of becoming delicious cider that goes into our Cider Club!

It was barely sunrise as trucks and cars rumbled in, as pickers, haulers, foreman and checkers filled the fields in the morning glow.  They fanned out into the rows of pinot noir grapes, their hands working unbelievably rapidly as they filled buckets that then filled bins. The harvest is a fraught time, underscoring all the uncertainties of farming. More and more vineyards are turning to machine picking to reduce labor costs…
